Two People Came out of a Building...

Just the other day I saw two people come out of a building and they reminded me of the time I use to work in the business industry. Dressed in black, high heels, hair pinned to the back, accompanied by a handsome fellow. I worked at Media 24 for the corporate communications part department.

The woman looked as if she was showing this man around town, like he was new to company. It took me back to the day I had to call Nico Panagio – former Top Billing Presenter. I was extremely nervous; I didn’t know how to conduct myself over the telephone that I ended up writing a mini speech so that I could prevent myself from stuttering over the phone.

The phone rang and rang, and wondered if he wasn’t maybe some shoot, and as I was just about to hang up, Nico answered “ Nico speaking hello”. I froze… lol. Then he said one more time “Hello, can you here me?” Then finally I broke my tension and said “Good day Nico, hope I’m not bothering you…” and those first moments speaking to a hot celebrity. We booked him for Media24’s annual conference which is huge, and the budget well as long as we could deliver a spectacular event, money wasn’t really the issue.

Eventually, Nico had to come in as see us personally, once again, I had to formally welcome him and keep him occupied while they set up the board room. First glance, beautiful guy, but then I heard his ego shining through strongly. It was like an anti-climax height had just hit me in the face. He knew he was good looking, and made it clear that he was there to speak to the big rollers and I was just some receptionist girl doing her job.

When we finally had sit in the meeting, he was just rambling off how good he is, and the experience he has, blab bla bla, ag he was just so fake, I could see right through him trying to put on this visage that ‘ I’m a very nice guy’ but it didn’t work for me.

Then when he left I escorted him very prim and properly out of the building to his car, he just said “chow” and off he went.

It was just then that I realized that Nico is just like any other normal human being, and just because he’s a celebrity, doesn’t mean you should treat him any different to any other person. From that time, when ever I see a celebrity, I don’t look down or think less of myself.

  1. Mish your blogs are too long you should write a book it will probably sell. It's never crossed my mind to think down of myself when i bump into a celeb. I appreciate the way they entertain us but nothing else i won't even ask for an autograph.

  2. Mish, after I read the title of your blog post,I was expecting that I would hear a story about the two people coming out of the building. Any way you made a great effort in incorporating the experience you had while workign in the corporate world.

  3. Mish, I was expecting something completely different when I read the title of this blog. I think you added the experience you had in the "working world" well into this story.
