If I were the Boss?

Angry Boss

They are the ones who help and assist in making your working days a living hell. They notice when you made an error and make sure you pay for this error by being rude with you whole year. Besides being rude an angry boss has a lot of inner soul searching to do. Everyone around him becomes unhappy and unproductive, because you are not able to function effectively in an unpleasant environment Angry people in general are people who are not completely satisfied with themselves, and by shouting at others, they achieve a sense of relief by running away from their own issues and not facing it by the horns.

Happy Boss

They are people who are very comfortable with themselves and are able to conduct their work, effectively and efficiently without having to depend on others. By sending across positive energy in your working environment, allows people to enjoy their work without having to stress when he/she might get fired because of a simple mistake. A happy boss feels happy, because the team pulls their weight 100% of the time and therefore, they don't disappoint.

There are just days like today where I feel I could be an angry boss of my group. Although I do feel we should all be our bosses and the main boss should just monitor and ensure that the company functions correctly with every one's expertise.

Like today, their was a miscommunication barrier in our group, where we were unable to communicate effectively to each other. All of us ended up on total different spheres of Cape Town today. As for our group leader, I feel he could've communicated better and effectively with us.

If I were the boss, I would like to be a happy boss. I think a happy boss knows what they look for in an certain employee, therefore he won't hire someone who is not suited for the job, but choose the best candidate.

If I had to be the boss or leader of our group today, I would incorporate the following:
- Make sure my team meets on time for meetings, and should they be late, to notify one of the members or me (the boss).
- Make sure their are means of communication to get hold of members if people don't have airtime, namely, the Internet, and agree upon that means of communication
- make sure everyone has a copy of every one's contact details, so that if anything should happen, we are able to help one another out.
- Try to be as effective as possible in communicating the correct plan of action.
- Ensure everyone gets the same message before the meeting ends.
- Instill a sense of taking charge and knowing what I am doing, thereby not leaving my team mates, wondering what to do next.

To conclude, due to miscommunication today, we are not able to be on par and on deadline for our work.

Well, we can learn from this experience, and make sure it does not happen a second time around.

Two People Came out of a Building...

Just the other day I saw two people come out of a building and they reminded me of the time I use to work in the business industry. Dressed in black, high heels, hair pinned to the back, accompanied by a handsome fellow. I worked at Media 24 for the corporate communications part department.

The woman looked as if she was showing this man around town, like he was new to company. It took me back to the day I had to call Nico Panagio – former Top Billing Presenter. I was extremely nervous; I didn’t know how to conduct myself over the telephone that I ended up writing a mini speech so that I could prevent myself from stuttering over the phone.

The phone rang and rang, and wondered if he wasn’t maybe some shoot, and as I was just about to hang up, Nico answered “ Nico speaking hello”. I froze… lol. Then he said one more time “Hello, can you here me?” Then finally I broke my tension and said “Good day Nico, hope I’m not bothering you…” and those first moments speaking to a hot celebrity. We booked him for Media24’s annual conference which is huge, and the budget well as long as we could deliver a spectacular event, money wasn’t really the issue.

Eventually, Nico had to come in as see us personally, once again, I had to formally welcome him and keep him occupied while they set up the board room. First glance, beautiful guy, but then I heard his ego shining through strongly. It was like an anti-climax height had just hit me in the face. He knew he was good looking, and made it clear that he was there to speak to the big rollers and I was just some receptionist girl doing her job.

When we finally had sit in the meeting, he was just rambling off how good he is, and the experience he has, blab bla bla, ag he was just so fake, I could see right through him trying to put on this visage that ‘ I’m a very nice guy’ but it didn’t work for me.

Then when he left I escorted him very prim and properly out of the building to his car, he just said “chow” and off he went.

It was just then that I realized that Nico is just like any other normal human being, and just because he’s a celebrity, doesn’t mean you should treat him any different to any other person. From that time, when ever I see a celebrity, I don’t look down or think less of myself.

Jacob Zuma's Speech... black and white domination

You have not fought against black domination Mr. President.

In the president’s state of the nation speech On Thursday, 11 February 2010, he mentioned that “he has stopped white domination, and black domination.” I do not entirely agree with that statement in that although this is a ‘Democratic’ country, there is a still much discrimination in this country, furthermore a huge black domination that is governing and working in this country. I am a coloured, and fall under the so called “Black Economic Empowerment” when applying for a job or being considered, undergoing an interview. Through my personal experience, I’ve witnessed how brilliant individuals with great vision and that are most suited for the job description was turned down and replaced by a darker skin colour because the company needed to uphold it’s 100% BEE .

Now the plot thickens, and as a current student with a disadvantage of a certain race or skin tone, don’t you ever wonder what is waiting out there for you in the real business world?

I’ve had my fair share of interviews and sat in interviews for positions, and my eyes opened up to reality… the reality being that apartheid has not entirely left this country, its just replaced their leaders with the different skin tone, still the same game, just a different colour and a different mind game… we are all equal.

In my opinion, I do not agree with Zuma’s statement in terms of stopping white and black domination's, because as long as you still fear and have doubt in yourself because your skin colour might not be appropriate enough, I see it as being discriminated against.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, so why not focus on educating and uplifting impoverished areas like the Eastern Cape, where more than half of its population do not speak or write English. Pump some BEE into these communities, especially directed to adults who are illiterate by offering a system whereby people have free access to learn, acquire the national language English, and that way, no one is really left in the dark, and together we can slowly build this nation.

Government needs to work forward and not backwards, because by employing people who are not best suited for the job, but only because of his or her skin tone, you creating a vicious a malicious cycle.

Beware of the Skater Dudes…

Monday morning I was on my way to tech, and as a student coming all the way from Kuils River, I take a train to Cape Town every morning and trot the other kilometers to tech. Just like any other day, I was walking across the parade, crossing the first robot onto the castle side walk. As we all know the buses in SA have no mercy for walking pedestrians, and like me, being pedestrian I find it safer to cross the road before the road makes a bend because you never know when a buss might come around in a mightily fast speed.

To get to the point, as I was about to cross the road a bus came out of no where and came full speed and immediately I turned back, and at this very moment I heard a guy,the skater dude! shout ‘WATCH OUT!’ and wham@#$#$%, bam@#@*## no thank you… no I’m just kidding he didn’t knock me. The next thing I know, I just feel this dude grabbing my hand in pursuit of almost falling on top of me …lol. Luckily I grabbed his hand steadily, had a moment... and let go. I was half asleep and half awake when this happened and the skater dude told me to watch where I walk, then I thought about it afterwards, and thought, but you skater dudes shouldn't’t even be skating in the road to begin with.

Moral of the story, watch out for skater dude’s, they are out there, so be on the look out next time you cross the road 8.15 am in the morning. As skaters you can’t blame the pedestrian can you... especially when we are more focusing on busses and cars driving past? Maybe if they had a flash light or a beeper to alert pedestrians, then maybe you won’t go crashing into us or vice versa.

So skater dude, if you are at Cape Tech, I’m sorry if I obstructed you, but you were also at fault to be skating in the road that busy time in the morning. Sorry!

Anyway it was a rush because I thought he was going to knock me, but he didn’t... hehehe. And he was a cute white dude as well hehe.

Mish.dish on her wacky Monday!

WHERE DOES ONE FIT INTO THE WORLD PICTURE?

It's starting to make more and more sense why there are people on this earth who are moving and learning at an immense speed purely because of their insight, beliefs, knowledge and the amount of positive energy they let out and receive simultaneously. Have you ever thought what is it you were meant to finish on this earth.. your purpose in life? I think what I've realized this morning is that success, your success in life is not primarily distinguished or established by the amount of paper you gather over the years at university, unless you feel the way forward is a good education foundation that comes with added benefits like qualification papers.

In my opinion, I disagree. I've just realized how everything and anything it is we do comes from our influences on earth. Be it at home, social environment, government, their is a constant pattern of some control, people who control our thinking methods, ways we think the way forward is may clash with our belief system or just primarily what is considered right and wrong in this world. Have you ever thought that all the studying you are doing, if it's really worth it, what are you perceived thoughts when a achieving your piece of paper like diploma, degree honours, the list continues.

My thought has taken a rude awakening shift. I believe we should not be bound to get a proper education via x and y in order to make a success in your life. i believe its what you put out to the universe and instantaneously, you will get back what you put out. A simply example, your way of thinking. Ever thought who was the brain behind inventing education, a system of governancy, a law that you must abide to, attending a certain church or practising a certain belief because this is what you were taught to do?

If you feel dissatisfied or unhappy in a institution, because deep down you believe and know their has to be another way to do what you are passionate about, but because society places you in this vicious cycle that according to this act and according to so and so and so, if you follow A B and C, you will get to D E and F?

I think now that modern technology has enlightened us with the Internet, the possibilities are endless, but due to the system, the rule, the by laws, you are merely forced into a certain direction by means of your thinking and energies. I feel like we've been hypnotised by society, and we need to wake up and realize that a the world we are living in comes with endless possibilities, and that only as a unit, as one being we can concur and finish what we were suppose to do on this earth.

If you haven't seen AVATAR, please go see that movie. It opened my eyes and as I live my life I am seeing the possibilities, all you need is to believe its possible and move forward from their.

I have two friends and they are brothers and because they chose to think differently, a radical change has come upon their lives and they have taken that leap and they are changing their lives.. why? Simple, they've found a means to work or around the system to get to where they are today in a span of two years. If they can do it, so can I, you, anyone and everyone. It's just about taking that first leap and never looking back!!!

Like Michael Jackson said.. "We are the World, we are the Future"

Designer PR

If I were to define this topic, I believe in can be broken up into many facets. For one, being in Public Relations requires you to be very creative and innovative. As a designer PR, I envision a person who is able to come up with ideas, visualize and present it. I do however feel that being a PR student, we haven't been exposed to design as such. It would be sufficient if in future PR students could have Graphic Design and drawings as a subject and allow development in the creative side of PR.

I can't draw, so I'm always googling pictures to illustrate my concept or vision which at time are quite frustrating, because as an individual, we try to be independent on ourselves as much as possible.. I do but dew to lack of knowledge and experience, I struggle.

On the flip side I think I should make it my quest to teach myself design, downlaod a photoshop programme and take it from their. I don't think we should wait on an institution to enrich our knowlegde as time is precious and with all the information on the internet, it is possible to enrich ourselves as individuals and move forward.

Have to go to class... chat later!

Writers Block

Today is one of those dreary days where my brain doesn't seem to work with me congruently. I woke up this morning with a massive headache knowing I have lots to do in a small amount of time. One of it being to complete tech work, but when I left this morning I forgot the one most important thing of the day... my flash. My flash is like my other life that holds the important information that I simply can't do without, especially for my blog.

Now I'm sitting here thinking of something to write, but my brain is blank. So I'm writing about my block, hoping my brain can turn on the lights so that we can start working effectively together so that I won't have to waist another day pondering about my work!

Now I just have to count and see whether what I wrote about was long enough...

I'm going to think happy thoughts now, and try to revive myself, so that when you do hear from me again on my blog, I will be engerized and pump some feel good thoughts into your head.

Thats all, see you later...

" Is Polygamy a Feminist Issue?"

Is polygamy a 'feminist issue'? A question raised and bebated about too many times in this country.

In my opinion I agree that polygamy is a feminist issue. It has been practised for many years, and still is in today's modern day and age. It saddens me that polygamy is still being practised, especially in religion and your culture you are born into.

Polygamy is wrong and as we live in free democratic county, women have rights as well, and that is freedom of choice. Just because you are born into a certain culture or religion does not mean you have to obey, forced or be submissive to male demands, unless you strongly believe that polygamy is apart your belief system, and not feel degraded as a female in any way.

My aunt married into a polygamy marriage and for years she has been a slave to her husband and his family. Till this day, she is being controlled and has not been able to break free from this vicious cycle. She has opened my eyes and made me aware that we as females need to break free and become a true female that you were always intended to be.

I see this as a means to control females, and as long as the cycle of polygamy continues, males will always feel or assume they have the right to your body, mind and soul.

We are precious and fierce beings, and we have so much inner strength within us and do not even know it exists.

Now is the time to shine and show the world that we as Females know our rights, and strive forward in empowering other females in breaking the cycle of Polygamy.
